It seems that life throws us business meetings, soccer games that conveniently start right before dance classes, and a plethora of many other reasons that some how land us in a line speaking to a human in a box. We order food that we know isn’t good for us, but what other choice do we have? Actually we have several healthy fast food choices. Below is a top five list of healthy fast food restaurants in the Tampa Bay area that some of you may already be aware of, and one you might be surprised at.
1. Panera Bread
This bakery/cafe/eatery has a menu that includes whole grain bread sandwiches, fresh fruit, half sized soups, and meats that are antibiotic and hormone-free. Definitely known for their bakery, the menu has many healthy choices for breakfast like muffins and bagels, but if you want to shed pounds stay away from the sweets like cheese danishes.
2. Jason’s Deli
Devotion to organically grown food and portion controlled options, Jason’s Deli is a great healthy choice for lunch or dinner. They offer menu choices like spinach stuffed whole wheat wraps, salads packed with field greens, chicken, fresh fruit, nuts and berries. Also, the option of reduced sized menu items like the stuffed baked potato (which is a $1 less), and super healthy sandwiches with complete nutritional info makes Jason’s a healthy favorite for losing weight.
3. Chipotle Mexican Grill
With the ability to give a customer total control over their food choices, Chipotle offers a buffet packed with endless options. Although that can be dangerous in regards to portion size, with a little bit of self control one will find fresh, organic ingredients from the local area. Building your own salad, burrito, or taco has never been more healthy with the offering of antibiotic and hormone free meats and local produce. Burrito bowls are great because you can skip the carbs in the tortilla.
4. Atlanta Bread Company
Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Atlanta Bread company has got you covered in healthy choices like muffin tops, hearty soups, and flavorful paninies on whole grain bread. The Salsa Fresca Salmon salad is a nutritional knockout with wild Alaskan salmon that has been grilled, roasted corn and black bean salsa, and a pineapple/mango vinaigrette. Since overhauling it’s menu, McDonald’s has items that are surprisingly healthy. For breakfast the McMuffin is a much healthier choice than a biscuit, and their yogurt parfaits are actually quite yummy. For lunch there are grilled chicken sandwiches and snack wraps that are less than 300 calories. As for those kick-ass salads, there is a good variety which come with Paul Newman salad dressings. Also, remember portion control when ordering drinks and sides, it is best to order everything in a small size.
